The Key Laboratory of Intelligence Technology and System was established in July 1987, passed the national acceptance standard in February 1990, and officially opened to the outside world. In the thirteen years from 1990 to 2003 the laboratory has successfully passed all three expert group evaluations by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, authorized by the Ministry of Science and Technology. All three assessments were rated as A (excellent laboratory). In October 1994, the Key Laboratory of Intelligence Technology and Systems was awarded the collective "Golden Bull Award" at the ceremony to celebrate its tenth anniversary. It was listed as a pilot laboratory by the Ministry of Science and Technology in 1997. In 2004, the laboratory was again awarded the collective "Golden Bull Award" at the 20th anniversary of the construction of the national key laboratory.
