Research overview

A multi-layer architecture supporting massive digital resource services and management systems (DRMS) has been proposed. This framework addresses the characteristics of large-scale digital resources including distribution, dynamism, massive scale, and heterogeneity, providing an internet-oriented foundational software platform with independent intellectual property rights. The first doctoral dissertation and postdoctoral research report on digital libraries in China were published, offering crucial technical support for the overall design and implementation of China's National Digital Library.

For trustworthy verification of composite web services, we proposed the WCFA (Web Service Interface Control Flow Automaton) formal model, which enables modeling and formal verification of web service interfaces. Based on probability distributions from domain classification models, we developed novel methods for user interest representation, similarity calculation, and interest updating. To address data sparsity in collaborative filtering, we introduced concepts including user authority, resource popularity, global authority, and domain authority to reflect evaluation stability and resource acceptance levels. This work resulted in China's first publication at the WWW2003 top-tier international conference.

In e-government applications, we established the Government Information Architecture (GIA), encompassing scientific theoretical methods, technical support systems, layered reference models, and standardization frameworks. We led the development of national standards for e-government information resource directory and exchange systems. The GIA has become a key reference for China's national informatization framework, with its directory system adopted as a national standard.

For big data management and analysis, we proposed the LCUKS model and developed Huabase - China's first independently developed columnar database management system. This system achieved breakthroughs in core technologies including data compression, on-demand reading, sparse indexing, data object modeling, lifecycle management, object traceability, and personalized recommendation. It features significant innovations in unstructured data organization, data distribution, loading, and parallel query processing. For analytical queries such as set similarity search, approximate join, approximate query processing, and spatial-text search, we developed innovative methods utilizing indexing, data transformation, reuse, and generative techniques combined with new hardware technologies like SSDs and SGX. These approaches significantly improve retrieval efficiency while ensuring cloud data security, achieving internationally leading levels in columnar database architecture and key technologies.

Addressing the challenges of heterogeneity, autonomy, complexity, and evolution in healthcare big data, we developed credible, efficient, and intelligent big data-driven methods for knowledge representation, management, integration, and reasoning. We established a prototype knowledge graph-based medical decision support system, investigated classification and prediction problems in healthcare data, and developed novel deep learning frameworks incorporating domain knowledge and social relationships. These innovations significantly improved classification and prediction accuracy. Specific contributions include entity extraction, relationship extraction, and knowledge graph construction methods for cardiovascular applications. Our work demonstrates breakthroughs in healthcare big data management and integration, significant innovations in knowledge graph construction technology, and independent advances in semantic analysis, knowledge discovery, and big data sharing - achieving internationally leading levels in comparable technologies.


Awards and Honors

He has won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the Science and Technology Achievement Award of the Ministry of Education, the first prize of China Assocition of Inventions' Innovation Award of Invention and Entrepreneurship Award, the second prize of the Achievement Award for China Industry University Research Collaboration Innovation , the Individual Award for China Industry University Research Collaboration Innovation , the annual "Metaverse 30 People" for China Metaverse Innovator Award, the annual "Blockchain 60 People" for China blockchain Innovator Award, and the Blockchain Person of the Year award.


Academic Achievements

He published more than 400 papers, including 40 SCI and 300 EI journal and conference articles(Google Citations 3600+,h-index 31) , authored or translated 10 books (including co-authored works). He has obtained 33 software copyrights,  43 patents of invention, and a technological achievement of Ministry of Education of China. His research has been supported by a number of national programs of China, such as National Basic Research Program (973), Natural Science Foundation of China, National High-Tech R&D Program (863), National High-Tech Industrialization Project of CNGI, National Science and Technology Support Program, and more than 40 projects was achieved.


Talent Development

He has trained more than 40 postgraduate students, guided more than 10 doctoral students and more than 10 postdoctoral students.
